CoinEx is shutting down after nine years. The exchange announced an orderly wind-down on 15 September 2026. It applies to every user in every country, and the final deadline to withdraw is 22 December 2026 at 02:00 UTC. If you still hold assets on CoinEx, this guide walks through what to do, in what order, and what to check before every transfer.
According to CoinEx's announcement, as reported by Decrypt and The Cryptonomist, the wind-down runs in four stages:
Unclaimed USDT is then moved to an independent custodian that charges a 5% monthly custody fee on the original balance, with a recovery window until 22 August 2028. Every month of delay costs money, and withdrawal queues tend to grow near a deadline, so do not wait for the last week.
Once spot trading closes on 29 September, whatever you hold stays exactly as it is. If you hold a small token that your next exchange or wallet does not support, consider converting it to USDT while you still can. USDT is the easiest asset to move: almost every exchange accepts it on several networks.
Choosing the wrong network is the most common way to lose funds between exchanges. USDT exists on several blockchains, and BEP20 and ERC20 addresses both start with 0x, so a wrong-network address can look perfectly valid.
The rule is simple: the network you select on CoinEx's withdrawal page must be exactly the network the destination address was created for.
If you are moving to Saraf:
Paste the address into CoinEx's withdrawal page and compare the first and last characters with the original; clipboard malware swaps copied addresses. Send a small amount, wait until it arrives, then move the rest. One extra withdrawal fee is the cheapest insurance you can buy. For assets that need a memo or tag (such as XRP or TON), always include it when sending to an exchange.
Every exchange closure brings a wave of scams promising faster withdrawals or recovered funds. No real support team will ever ask for your password, your two-factor code or your wallet's recovery phrase, and nobody can extend the withdrawal deadline for a fee.
CoinEx's closure is a reminder that exchanges can shut down or restrict users from a country. When you choose where to go next, check that the exchange:
Like CoinEx, Saraf is a custodial exchange: it holds the keys so you can trade quickly. For funds you plan to hold long-term without trading, a personal wallet whose recovery phrase only you hold reduces your dependence on any single exchange. That is the real lesson of CoinEx's closure.
If you used ViaBTC's free "Transfer to CoinEx" to move pool earnings, you can do the same with Saraf: send them by ViaBTC's free, instant Inter-User Transfer to Saraf's ViaBTC account and get paid to your Saraf wallet, as USDT to your own address, or in toman to an Iranian bank card or Sheba. Report a ViaBTC transfer.
